1. Private, invitation-only service
Files is a private, self-hosted file and media management service. Access is provided only to the owner and approved users and may be changed or withdrawn at any time. You may not share credentials or attempt to access another user’s data.
2. Your accounts and content
You remain responsible for your provider accounts and for the files, photos, and videos you store, share, edit, or import. You represent that you have the right to copy, process, and store the content you select. Files does not take ownership of your content.
3. Connected services and imports
Google Photos and OneDrive connections are optional. By connecting a provider, you direct Files to use the permissions shown during authorization to perform imports and Google metadata repairs you request. Your use of a provider remains subject to that provider’s terms and policies. You can disconnect or revoke access at any time.
Imports from this device use the browser or operating-system picker and do not create an Apple or iCloud connection. Cloud and device imports copy selected content into Files; they do not transfer ownership or remove the source item from its provider or device.
4. File, sharing, and duplicate actions
Actions taken by an authorized user or administrator may move, rename, edit, share, quarantine, restore, or delete stored content. Duplicate results are decision-support tools: visually similar results are not guaranteed to be duplicates, and users must preview and verify selections before acting.
Quarantine is intended to support recovery until an administrator restores or purges an item. Direct permanent deletion and explicit quarantine purge are destructive and may not be recoverable. Import history, indexes, thumbnails, or backups are not substitutes for an independent backup of important content.
Captured-date maintenance can modify supported media metadata and filesystem timestamps and can delete a matching Apple sidecar after verification. Apply mode requires an approved preview run, but you remain responsible for reviewing the configured folders and exclusions and maintaining backups. Conflicting or unverified sidecars are retained.
Scheduled EXIF repair can report recognized metadata problems or, when enabled for repair, replace affected JPEG and PNG photos after verification and retention of the original. Rebuilding EXIF can omit unreadable or unsupported metadata. Linux replacements preserve image data, readable orientation, capture dates and GPS, and supported file attributes; filesystem birth time may change. Administrators manage backup recovery, retention and available storage. Original backups are not automatically deleted when task logs, photos or accounts are removed. Review task folders and exclusions before scheduling repairs and maintain independent backups.
Google Photos metadata sync replaces captured dates in explicitly selected local images and videos using exact filenames from your Picker selection. All selected local copies with that filename are eligible; conflicting Google dates prevent changes. Filenames alone do not prove that two items contain the same media, so you are responsible for selecting corresponding items. Unsupported formats remain unchanged. Files verifies captured dates to whole-second precision, updates supported filesystem modification timestamps, and reports that true filesystem birth time cannot be changed. Cancellation takes effect between files; clearing results does not undo metadata changes.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to use Files to:
- break applicable law or infringe another person’s rights;
- upload, store, or distribute malware or harmful material;
- bypass access controls or probe accounts you do not own;
- interfere with the service or place unreasonable load on it; or
- use connected-provider access for a purpose other than your own requested imports.
6. Availability and backups
The service is provided on an as-available basis and may experience outages, changes, incomplete processing, or data loss. A completed import is a copy, not a backup strategy. You are responsible for maintaining appropriate backups and retaining originals where needed.
7. Disclaimers and limitation
To the extent permitted by law, Files is provided without warranties of uninterrupted operation, fitness for a particular purpose, error-free imports, or perfect media and duplicate classification. The operator is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential loss arising from use of the service. Nothing in these terms excludes rights or liability that cannot legally be excluded.
8. Suspension and termination
Access may be suspended or terminated to protect the service, comply with law, or address a violation of these terms. Provider connections and pending import jobs may be removed when a Files account is deleted. Already imported files are managed separately by an authorized user or administrator.
9. Changes and contact
These terms may be updated as the application changes. The date above will be revised for updates. Questions can be sent to privacy@adrianvella.com.
